AMA ACT International Women's History Month Dinner

Conversations in Women's Health - Physical, Mental and Financial

 

Join us for an intimate dinner event celebrating Women's History month. This event provides an opportunity to connect with likeminded peers and contribute to a national conversation about advancing women's health in Australia. 

Held in the beautiful courtyard of Hotel Realm, the evening will feature a panel hosted by AMA ACT President, Dr Kerrie Aust. Dr Aust will explore the diverse and interconnected factors that shape women's wellbeing, as well as speaking to AMA's newly launched Women's Health Position Statement that underscores the need for gender-responsive, culturally safe and equitable healthcare. Kerrie will be joined by Dr Meredith Whiting, a psychiatrist working in multidisciplinary private practice, and Rana Elmir, a clinical social worker and trauma specialist, speaking to women's mental health and wellbeing.

Cost: $120 for members, $150 for non-members

A two-course meal and beverages are included with your ticket.

Meet your host: 

Dr Kerrie Aust, FRACGP

Dr Kerrie Aust is the President of AMA ACT and a general practitioner. 

Dr Aust is a graduate of ANU Medical School, completing her specialty training in General Practice in 2019. She continues to work with ANU in her capacity as a Clinical Senior Lecturer with the ANU School of Medicine and Psychology. Her clinical interests include women’s health, mental health, antenatal care and preventive health, with a strong focus on equity, access and whole‑of‑life wellbeing. Kerrie is also a member of RACGP, the ACT Medical Women’s Society, and the Canberra Transgender Care Network, and volunteers with DRS4DRS ACT, supporting doctor and medical student wellbeing. As AMA ACT President, she is a committed advocate for quality healthcare in the ACT region. 

 

Meet your panelists:

Dr Meredith Whiting

Dr Meredith Whiting is a psychiatrist working in multidisciplinary private practice, with a particular interest in working with survivors of trauma. She has extensive experience across public, not-for-profit and private sectors, including ACT Public Mental Health Service. Dr Whiting is also the Chair of the Bi-National Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry Family Violence Network Committee. Meredith is passionate about supporting health across the life span, with awareness and integration of their values and community. 

 

Rana Elmir

Rana is a Canberra-based clinical social worker and trauma specialist. She has founded two successful operating businesses, providing psychology services within both the private and professional worlds. Living with vision impairment, Rana has shown remarkable determination and capability, turning significant personal challenges into a foundation for outstanding success in supporting women’s mental health. This has led Rana to understand women’s health and success through a dual lens: the expert trauma clinician and the determined business woman. Her professional knowledge, combined with her own hard-won journey, makes her a powerful advocate for the real challenges women face when achieving their goals and maintaining wellbeing.
